Dr. Carol Ball

One of the founding partners of New England Forensic Associates, Dr. Carol Ball is a licensed Psychologist with many years experience working with both victims and offenders. She has testified as an expert in psychology in cases where the question of the Battered Women's Syndrome has been raised. She has consulted to correctional systems at both the state and federal level and has testified in cases of sexual misconduct in Massachusetts and several other New England states. Dr. Ball has been at the forefront of developing innovative approaches to treatment and comprehensive management of sexual compulsive disorders and, from 1993-1999, served on the Board of Directors of the National Association for the Treatment of Sex Abusers (A.T.S.A). She is currently an Attending Psychologist at McLean Hospital and holds a faculty appointment in the Department of Psychiatry, Harvard University Medical School.
Ruth Lewis, Ph.D.
Dr. Ruth Lewis is the Assistant Clinical Director at New England Forensic Associates (NEFA). She is a licensed psychologist who completed her Doctoral Psychology Internship training and a Research and Clinical Psychology Fellowship at McLean Hospital, a Harvard University affiliated psychiatric hospital in Belmont, MA. Since 1994, Dr. Lewis has provided specialized individual and group treatment at NEFA to clients with sexual interest, compulsivity, or offending behavior problems. Dr. Lewis is a member of the Association for the Treatment of Sex Abusers (ATSA); an Executive Board Member, past Vice–President, and current Treasurer, of the Massachusetts Association for the Treatment of Sex Abusers (MATSA); and she is included in the Massachusetts Coalition for Sex Offender Management (MCSOM) Treatment Providers Network. She has written professional publications and has presented at professional conferences on treating problematic sexual behavior. In addition to her work at NEFA, Dr. Lewis maintains a private psychology practice in Arlington, MA.
Carlos Davila, Ed.D.
Dr. Carlos Davila has 26 years of experience working with sex offenders. He received his doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology from Boston University in 1981, and completed pre-doctoral clinical internships at MGH/Harvard Medical School facilities. He was director of the Diagnostic/Assessment Unit at the Massachusetts Treatment Center for Sexually Dangerous Persons where he worked from 1980 to 1983. He has presented at conferences regarding issues of treatment and assessment of sex offenders, as well as on issues of cultural diversity and Latino culture. Spanish speaking.
Nancy Di Zio, M. Ed., L.M.H. C.
Nancy E. DiZio has been a clinical staff member at New England Forensic Associates (NEFA) since 1988. She provides individual, group, behavioral and family therapy to sex offenders in the community. In addition Ms DiZio spent 18 years at the Massachusetts treatment center for Sexually Dangerous Persons in a variety of positions. Ms DiZio has 25 years of clinical experience in the Massachusetts prison system and currently is the Regional Mental Health Director for the state. Ms DiZio conducts workshops and training seminars on sex offender treatment and management, and has been a guest lecturer for the University of Massachusetts, Boston campus; Wheelock College; Bridgewater State College; Massachusetts State Police Academy; The Department of Corrections, and the Sex Offender Registry Board (SORB).
Steven Hughes, Ed.D.
Dr. Steven Hughes has over 30 years of clinical experience in correctional and forensic psychology in three states (Indiana, California and Massachusetts). While serving as a Consulting Psychologist and Regional Clinical Director for the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services for 12 years, he was also affiliated with appointments at Harvard Medical School as Assistant Clinical Instructor at Harvard and Attending Psychologist at McLean Hospital, and as Clinical Fellow (Neuropsychological Assessment) at Cambridge Hospital.
Leo D. Keating, LICSW
Leo D. Keating is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) who joined the staff at NEFA after his graduation in 1996 from Boston College Graduate School of Social Work. He has expertise in the administering of psychophysiological tests in comprehensive sex offender assessments. Currently, he specializes in both individual and group psychotherapy in the treatment of men with sexually compulsive behaviors. In addition to his work at NEFA, Mr. Keating also develops and implements medical and psychological contracts in a managed care setting. He has significant clinical experience in the Massachusetts prison system and work with violent offenders.
Christopher Miller, MS, MPA
Christopher Miller joined New England Forensic Associates in 2009 as a counselor providing behavior therapy and psychometric testing for individuals with problematic sexual behavior. He received a Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling and a Masters degree in Public Administration from Suffolk University in Boston. He is a member of the American Counseling Association and the Massachusetts Mental Health Counselors Association.
Jodie Shapiro, Psy.D.
Dr. Jodie Shapiro is a Forensic Psychologist who has been conducting court ordered statutory evaluations since 1999. She has a wide range of forensic experience including performing competency and criminal responsibility evaluations and providing relevant testimony at the District and Superior Court levels in Massachusetts. She has been a licensed psychologist since 1987 with clinical experience over the past nineteen years.
Joseph Stets, M.A.
Joseph Stets received his Masters degree in Clinical Psychology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and completed a Clinical Internship at the Cognitive Behavioral Unit of McLean Hospital, a Harvard affiliated teaching facility. Mr. Stets has been a therapist with New England Forensic Associates since 1989, providing both individual and group sexual offender treatment. In addition, Mr. Stets is the Program Director of a Neurorehabilitation Unit in the Traumatic Brian Injury Post Acute Behavioral Recovery Program. |
