Carol J. Ball, PhD
One of the founding partners of New England Forensic Associates, Dr. Carol Ball is a licensed Psychologist with many years experience working with both victims and offenders. She has testified as an expert in psychology in cases where the question of the Battered Women's Syndrome has been raised. She has consulted to correctional systems at both the state and federal level and has testified in cases of sexual misconduct in Massachusetts and several other New England states. Dr. Ball has been at the forefront of developing innovative approaches to treatment and comprehensive management of sexual compulsive disorders and, from 1993-1999, served on the Board of Directors of the national Association for the Treatment of Sex Abusers (ATSA). She is currently an Attending Psychologist at McLean Hospital and holds a faculty appointment in the Department of Psychiatry, Harvard University Medical School.
Leo D. Keating, LICSW
Leo D. Keating is the clinical director at New England Forensic Associates and has been a member of our treatment team since 1996. He is a graduate of the Boston College Graduate School of Social Work and has expertise in the administering of psychophysiological tests in comprehensive sex offender assessments. Currently, he specializes in both individual and group psychotherapy in the treatment of men with sexually compulsive behaviors. In addition to his work at NEFA, Mr. Keating has also developed and implemented medical and psychological contracts in a managed care setting. He has significant clinical experience in the Massachusetts prison system and in work with violent offenders.
Leisl Bryant, PhD
Dr. Leisl Bryant is licensed psychologist who specializes in forensic psychological assessments, consultations, and expert witness testimony. She holds a Diplomate in forensic psychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology, and has extensive experience in multiple areas of forensic practice. In addition, she currently serves as secretary for the New Hampshire Psychological Association (NHPA) and is a member of the NHPA Ethics Committee, NHPA Ad Hoc Committee for the Board of Mental Health Practice Rule Revisions, and the Quality Improvement Committee for the Forensic Services Division of the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health.
Carlos Davila, EdD
Spanish Speaking Treatment and Evaluation
Dr. Carlos Davila has 26 years of experience working with sex offenders. He received his doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology from Boston University in 1981, and completed pre-doctoral clinical internships at MGH/Harvard Medical School facilities. He was director of the Diagnostic/Assessment Unit at the Massachusetts Treatment Center for Sexually Dangerous Persons from 1980 to 1983. He has presented at conferences regarding issues of treatment and assessment of sex offenders, as well as on issues of cultural diversity and Latino culture.
Nancy DiZio, MEd, LMHC
Nancy DiZio has been a clinical staff member at New England Forensic Associates since 1988. She provides individual, group, behavioral and family therapy to sex offenders in the community. Ms. DiZio spent 18 years at the Massachusetts treatment center for Sexually Dangerous Persons in a variety of positions. She also has 26 years of clinical experience in the Massachusetts prison system working in both the men's and women's prisons. From 2007-2010, Ms. DiZio was the Regional Mental Health Director for Massachusetts state prisons. Ms. DiZio conducts workshops and training seminars on sex offender treatment and management, and has been a guest lecturer for the University of Massachusetts, Boston campus; Wheelock College; Bridgewater State College; Massachusetts State Police Academy; The Department of Corrections, and the Sex Offender Registry Board (SORB).
Steven Hughes, EdD
Dr. Steven Hughes has over 30 years of clinical experience in correctional and forensic psychology in three states (Indiana, California and Massachusetts). While serving as a Consulting Psychologist and Regional Clinical Director for the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services for 12 years, he was also affiliated with appointments at Harvard Medical School as Assistant Clinical Instructor at Harvard and Attending Psychologist at McLean Hospital, and as Clinical Fellow (Neuropsychological Assessment) at Cambridge Hospital.
Christopher Miller, MS, MPA
Christopher Miller joined New England Forensic Associates in 2009 as a counselor providing behavior therapy and psychometric testing for individuals with problematic sexual behavior. His work generally focuses on adjustment issues and impulse control disorders. He specializes in sexual arousal and sexual interest assessment. His previous work experiences focussed on chronic mental illness and domestic violence. He has GLBTQQI-specific mental healthcare training. He received a Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling and a Masters degree in Public Administration from Suffolk University in Boston. He is the Secretary and founding Board Member of the New England ACT Chapter of the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science and a member of the American Counseling Association and the Massachusetts Mental Health Counselors Association.
Jodie Shapiro, PsyD
Jodie Shapiro has been practicing as a clinical psychologist for the last twenty-five years, as a forensic psychologist since 1999, and as a qualified examiner (specializing in evaluation of sex offenders) since 2002. She is a consultant at New England Forensic Associates (NEFA) where she conducts forensic evaluations, psychosexual evaluations, and violence risk assessments. Through NEFA, she is a member of the State of New Hampshire’s Multidisciplinary Team, which operates to review cases and make determinations as to probable cause for Civil Commitment of sex offenders currently serving prison terms. She evaluates residents civilly committed to the Bridgewater Treatment Center for the Sexually Dangerous who have petitioned for their release. She has a wide range of experience evaluating defendants arrested for charges associated with sexual offenses and violent crime as well as drug related offenses. She provides expert testimony as requested. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, Division 41 (Psychology and Law) of the APA, Massachusetts Psychological Association, and the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers.
Joseph Stets, MA
Joseph Stets received his Masters degree in Clinical Psychology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and completed a Clinical Internship at the Cognitive Behavioral Unit of McLean Hospital, a Harvard affiliated teaching facility. Mr. Stets has been a therapist with New England Forensic Associates since 1989, providing both individual and group sexual offender treatment. In addition, Mr. Stets is the Program Director of a Neurorehabilitation Unit in the Traumatic Brain Injury Post Acute Behavioral Recovery Program.
