Very often in our field, decisions must be reached which potentially can impact on careers, court dispositions, custody and visitation, and family reunification. The possible continuing risk to the community, or to a family or specific victim, must be considered in determining inpatient treatment or incarceration.
With disturbing frequency we read and see accounts about sexual violence, of rape and sexual abuse, and of non contact sexual behavior that society formerly wrote off as nuisance behavior (exhibitionism, voyeurism, sexual harassment, etc.). As a professional you are often called upon to deal with such cases. The issues are sensitive and highly emotionally charged for the community.
